Description
1941 Remington Quiet Model 1 portable typewriter. This machine is a member of Remington’s “1941 Line” and closely resembles the Remington Model 1, which was known as the “noisy noiseless”. It has the double jointed typebars typical of all the noiseless portable typewriters of the era. The print action is more of a punch than a whack. This was a short lived model and was criticized for its poor imprint qualities.
This unit was cleaned and the chipped paint finish was refinished with a matte white and clear coat. The original ribbon spool covers were plastic as was the spacebar. Both have been replaced with custom figured quarter-sawn sycamore wood. The rubber feet have received a rejuvenating vinyl dip. All the mechanical functions work, but I find the type action requires a very even effort on the keyboard and the imprint quality is thin. Even though it types as it should, personally I think this machine is better as a decoration than as a daily user.
The case is in good structural shape with some minor stains and fabric wear. The nickel plated hardware is good shape with a couple pieces showing some pitting. The machine attaches securely to the base latch catches and stays closed. There is no key. The case a slight musty "old suitcase" odor that I haven't been able to get rid of entirely.
Machine will be well and safely packed according to professional guidelines. Shipping to Continental USA only.
