The marvel of Swiss engineering is demonstrated in this charming ultra-portable Hermes Rocket Typewriter.
When I bought this typewriter, it was evident that it had been stored away for decades. There are paint marks on the top which I have left on there as they add to the character of the typewriter. Did it belong to an artist? What messages has it typed? What all has it witnessed? As is typical with stored typewriters, there were some stuck keys that I freed up. The typestyle slugs (metal alphabets that strike the ribbon to make an impression on the paper) needed a good cleaning from the ages of dried ink that had claimed residence. It was missing the right knob for the platen (roller) that I sourced all the way from a typewriter repair shop in France. The decals on the rear of the machine are in good shape. There is some loss of paint in places - please see pictures.
The unit is complete with the handle has a small portion chipped away as shown in the picture. It types well and has a distinct sound that it makes when you use it - music to my ears. It works great and you will enjoy typing away on it. Given its ultra-portable size, it is easy to take it on a trip to the beachside home or the mountain cabin and churn out life memoirs or a love note. It has a new ribbon installed in it.
If you live in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, I will warranty the camera with a 30-day warranty with service in McAllen.
