    Description

    Kongoken
That’s right, you are right now looking at an ebay listing for an actual kongoken.
The kongoken was invented by by Goju Ryu founder Miyagi Chojun Sensei after a trip to Hawaii. The Hawaiian wrestlers used a steel circle weight in their training. Miyagi Sensei added straight sections to turn the circle into an oval. This allowed it to better approximate the size, shape, and weight distribution of a human being.
The kongoken is used to develop grabbing, twisting, and throwing strength. It can also be used in partner drills. You can think of it as a traditional grappling dummy. If you study Goju Ryu you need a kongoken. Your shieko-dachi will thank you. If you don’t study Goju Ryu you can still benefit from the kongoken. If you are looking for a way to develop greater power in your hips the kongoken will not only help you build it but will teach you how to transfer it more efficiently.
This kongoken is 2.5” (64mm) in diameter, 66” (1.67m) in height, weighs 50lbs (22.7kg), and has a PVC
outer shell. The straight sections are 18” (46cm) apart.
This is the kit version of the kongoken. With this item you will recieve the outer shell, painted and ready to glue, along with instructions explaining how to fill with concrete and assemble. We also offer this item fully completed if you live in the US.
