Patrick Sharp Bio
It's a good thing Sharp likes parades. As one of his generation's most decorated players, he has spent a lot of time riding in them.
He rode in three as a Stanley Cup champion with the Chicago Blackhawks, who won the Cup in 2010, 2013 and 2015; was a member of Team Canada's gold-medal-winning team at the 2014 Winter Olympics and won a Calder Cup title with Philadelphia of the American Hockey League in 2005.
A 2011 NHL All-Star, Sharp began his career with the Philadelphia Flyers, who drafted him in the third round (No. 95) in the 2001 NHL Draft, but he made his mark during an eight-year run with the Blackhawks, who acquired him on Dec. 5, 2005.
A player often lauded for his professionalism and leadership skills, Sharp scored 20 goals during his first full season with the Blackhawks in 2006-07. It was the first of seven seasons in which he would score at least 20 goals, and he also had four 30-plus goal seasons and five seasons of 60 or more points.
At the time Sharp was traded to the Dallas Stars on July 10, 2015, he had scored 38 game-winning goals and had become the Blackhawks active leader in power-play goals (65) and short-handed goals (16).
A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Sharp has become known primarily for his scoring prowess, but he has also developed a reputation for playing a gritty style and for his ability to bounce between left and right wing while playing responsibly in his own end of the ice.
He has received votes for the Selke Award, given to the League's best defensive forward, on several occasions, and has also received votes for the Lady Byng Trophy, given to the player who displays the best sportsmanship.
