    Description

The first production L-1049 Constellation made its maiden flight on July 14, 1951. The Constellation was Lockheed's response to the successful Douglas DC-6. The aircraft was also produced for both the United States Navy as the WV/R7V and the United States Air Force as the C-121, for transport, electronics, and airborne early warning and control aircraft. A total of 856 Constellations of various models were manufactured. There are, unfortunately, only a few airworthy Constellations left today.
Lufthansa Airlines is the flag carrier of Germany. The airline was founded on 06 January 1953, and commenced operations on 01 April 1955. When grouped with its subsidiaries, it is the second largest airline in Europe with over 700 aircraft.
This Lufthansa L-1049G Constellation with registration number D-ALOP was delivered to Lufthansa on 28 May 1955. It flew with Lufthansa until August of 1967 when it was sold to Siegfried Karas. Lufthansa had 11 Lockheed L-1049G Constellations in service from 1955 to 1968.
